About this deal

This ambiguous status makes the neighbor particularly interesting as an entry point into issues of cultural complexity, self-definition and identity. The author did good character development, with a wide range of different characters in the neighborhood, but they were introduced so fast it was hard to keep them all straight (neither could Kat when she first met them all at the block party. Unless time was moving super quickly in the book without me realising, Sadie (the child) would begin to cry (as babies do) and within 3 minutes Kat would be saying “I’m such a bad mom! In my conversations with other pastors and Christian leaders, I’ve come to see that my story of pastoral malpractice is not unique. Peña—examine conjunto music, the corrido, Gulf fishermen's stories, rodeo traditions, dog trading and dog-trading tales, Mexican bakers' lore, Austin's "cosmic cowboy" scene, and other fascinating aspects of folklore in Texas.

A story with so many twists and turns, and turns and twists, and then a real bender, and character perspectives and sudden format changes and herring so red even Agatha Christie would be jealous that it is almost exactly like reading a mystery novel. Frank Dobie, John Mason Brewer, the Lomaxes, and of course Paredes himself, to whom this book is dedicated. Doug is a spiteful, grudge-holding idiot who has no respect for his wife and he irritated the heck out of me. He made it with seven minutes to spare and breezed straight back to the restroom, single stall, locking, thank Christ. In Dec of 2016 a book titled The Missing by Caroline Eriksson was one of the Kindle Firsts for the month. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains. Tasha and Stephen have been in an open relationship most of their seven years together, so long as their is honesty and communication. It kept me on my edge trying to figure out who was responsible and piecing together Kat's background.

The neighborhood is a total swinger’s colony, and Kat is completely insecure, while Doug seems to be contemplating his options.

Literal LOL at the negative reviews based solely on the fact that this story involves swinging, though. So far so good, and the author does a good job of leaving subtle clues, that are only noticeable in retrospect, as to who the author of the notes is. Yes it’s a psych-thriller (no worries, nothing tooooo scary in this, but it definitely had a thrilling creep factor), but it was also a jaw-dropping social exploration of friendships, and couples (married or not) in a close-knit, well-to-do “happy and peaceful” neighborhood (nicknamed “ The AV“). I could not put it down and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it, trying to figure out all the secrets and mysteries. After blacking out during a girls night out with her neighbors things go from just being a struggle to THE.
