About this deal

In our GHI tests, the Simba Hybrid Mattress Topper scored the highest with our panel, closely followed by the Silentnight Airmax 600 Mattress Topper. How do you take care of a mattress?

Coming in close behind the Origin mattress above score-wise, this is another outstanding hybrid mattress. Our testers found it a supportive bedroom addition with just the right amount of sink-in comfort. For most, it regulated their temperature at night well and was dreamily quiet, too. The feel of this mattress was quite awkward and uncomfortable. The tester was 11 stone and slight, he could feel the springs through the mattress when on his side. But given the price point, this is not surprising and the fact there’s only 3cm of upholstery in the entire mattress.

Ikea Mattress layers in detail‍

My husband and I bought the Hesseng (firm) a few months ago, after much research and shopping around. We wanted a reasonably firm mattress with sufficient padding, but preferred to avoid memory foam due to concerns about toxicity. The Hesseng is advertised as being comprised of natural materials.

If you bought a bed from Ikea some time ago, you may have a European double size. These have different dimensions to a UK standard double. What do Which? members think of Ikea mattresses? Read our guide to the best mattress brands to find out. That’s not all. “We are less likely to be woken by aches and pains, or wake up because we're too hot,” he adds. “Waking up feeling refreshed becomes the norm.” There is a polyester wadding layer and we would guess this is 200GSM on top of the foam in the quilted layer. If you had your mattress delivered, the collection and delivery of the replacement mattress would be free of charge.

What size are you looking for?

The mattress finishing details were disappointing. IKEA are still only using machine side stitching, rather than a quality hand side stitch. They do use a mix of cotton and rayon in their cover. The rayon provides the fire retardancy required, which is why it’s a blend of 53% linen and 47%viscose/rayon blend. There’s then a layer of 483 spun-bond mini springs in a foam casing. We’ve already discussed why mini springs should be avoided where possible. The foam moulds as you sleep and therefore contours to your body. What’s great about memory foam is that it also aids in relieving pressure from different parts of your body – and the MORGEDAL Memory Foam Mattress is no stranger to this. It specifically relieves pressure from your shoulders and hips, allowing you to feel as light as a feather throughout the night. The layer of soft fillings provides an additional layer of comfort and even more support. The foam also retains heat, designed to keep you warm in the colder months year after year. We also consult our readers, asking them what they like and dislike about their mattresses, to understand how the most popular brands on the market perform over time in real-world situations. We received 2,081 responses. Every respondent had owned their mattress for at least six months, and gave us their verdict on its comfort, support, durability, value for money and more.

The only bed-in-box emperor mattress we've found is the Otty Hybrid. Which mattress size is right for you? If you don’t want to splash out on a mattress at the moment, a mattress topper is a good way to boost your bed's comfort levels for less. Depending on the style you opt for, they will offer increased support, or bring an extra touch of softness, helping you sleep more comfortably. The Micro springs then sit on top of this and have a latex layer on top as the primary comfort layer. There’s no detail on the blend, depth, or type of latex used in this model, which is a shame. Without this information on the Latex, you can’t really compare or work out the firmness of the foam. We would guess it’s a 70kg layer given the feel. The MORGEDAL mattress has been well-reviewed by IKEA customers; they suggest that it’s great value for money and also scores highly on appearance and quality. The IKEA mattress is described as medium-firm and many recommend that this firmness within a mattress is great for your posture and spinal alignment. This is where the memory foam system comes in, as it offers comfort and support for users. There are many different benefits of memory foam including pressure relief and extra comfort. The third layer within the mattress consists of more soft fillings which only add to your comfort and provide that bit of extra support. The HYLLESTAD also comes with a 25-year guarantee which allows you to sleep better for longer! We recommend this as one of the best IKEA mattress options for those who are looking for high-quality springs. A couple of panellists found the mattress took some getting used to and it wasn’t firm enough for everyone’s taste. There’s no removable cover either, so we’d recommend investing in a mattress protector to keep it in top condition.

Only 20cm in depth leaving little to no room for upholstery or comfort layers without additional toppers

The second spring that IKEA uses is the micro spring, which has recently started to appear in mattress showrooms and retailers. We’re not a fan of micro springs, as there’s been a move to start using them to hyperinflate the spring counts in mattresses. This is not the case for IKEA, who typically use them as a secondary comfort layer and to increase loft in their one-sided mattresses. Micro Springs are the latest trend to inflate spring counts in mattresses This is the first IKEA mattress to mention their S-core spring technology. So, let’s take a look at that next. Customers enjoy how comfortable the mattress is and believe its quality is second to none. IKEA has branded this mattress by stating that you can have ‘the best of both’ worlds as the Bonnell springs provide firm support whilst the soft filling provides a cushioned feel. This means that the mattress will provide extra comfort support that allows you to rely on it for a fantastic sleep, night after night. Especially with the generous 25-year guarantee! The cons: Despite medium firmness, people describe it as very firm and uncomfortable for pressure points. It's important to remember that we spend a significant portion of our lives sleeping, so a mattress should be viewed as a long-term investment for your comfort and health.
